As a popular beach close to the coast of Bay of Bengal, Gopalpur-on-Sea is a tourist destination near Brahmapur that is the commercial centre of southern Orissa, and also near the border of Andhra Pradesh.

 

Facts and Figures:

Gopalpur, a town and a notified area in Ganjam District in the East Indian state of Orissa, is lying at 19.27°N 84.92°E, having an average elevation of 1 meter (3 ft). As an initiative taken in 1970s by Orissa Government, the jetties were renovated and the trading activities of Gopalpur port were revived. For visitors, it's really an amazing drive-in and one can see the marvelous sight of deep blue sea and the horizon from the beach. The long spread of cashew nut trees is another amazing viewpoint for travelers. The destination processes and exports cashew nuts from here. The lighthouse at Gopalpur-on-Sea is the main landmark here. You can take a splendid view of the entire Gopalpur town from the top of the lighthouse. Renowned for its annual 'beach festival', Gopalour-on-sea has a nearby beach – Dhabaleshwar – where temple of the same name is situated. The destination has a gorgeous but absolutely deserted.

The destination is about 15 km away by road from Brahmapur. It is well-connected by Air, Rail and Road networks from Bhubaneshwar that is 170 km away from the destination.

Gopalpur celebrated its first beach festival in the year 1996 by Ganjam District Hotel Association in a bid to promote tourism and culture in the region. Several people from Brahmapur enter Gopalpur on sea to spend some peaceful moments on the sea shore.
