Rourkela, lying in the northwestern tip of the Indian state of Orissa, is situated in the Sundargarh District at the core of a wealthy mineral belt. Enclosed by a range of hills and rivers, the destination is known for several religious places to visit.


Facts and Figures:

The ‘Rourkela’ name signifies ‘Sadri’ in the local tribal, which literally means ‘Our Village’. The region was inhabited by an indigenous community called Raulia. After independence, India established its first public sector steel plant facility in collaboration with Germany private undertaking – KRUPP & DEMAG Co. Steel Authority of India’s one of the largest steel plants is lying here. The place is also home to the National Institutes of Technology of India. Rourkela is the 14th most clean and green city of the country.



Rourkela is lying around 340 km (211 mile) north of state capital Bhubaneswar. The destination is well-connected by Air, Rail and Road transport. The nearest airport of Rourkela is Birsa Munda at Ranchi that is 250 km away. Regural bus service is also available from all the important places.
